Event Details

The Lucille Clifton annual poetry contest, held each spring, honors the prolific work of the late poet great. Widely celebrated for her unpretentious and unapologetic poems, Clifton’s unique free verse was free of punctuation, taut, and always recognizably her.

Submit up to three (3) unpublished poems April 15th through June 15th. The winner will be awarded $500, set of (3) Clifton poetry collections via BOA Editions along with publication via our website. Final Judge: Rickey Laurentiis. All submissions are read blind so please omit names and contact information on poem pages. A submission fee of $15.00 must accompany all entries via our submission page.

About the judge
Rickey Laurentiis is the author of Boy with Thorn, selected by Terrance Hayes for the 2014 Cave Canem Poetry Prize (University of Pittsburgh Press). He is recipient of a 2014 fellowship from the Civitella Ranieri Foundation in Italy, a 2013 Creative Writing Fellowship from the National Endowment for the Arts, and a 2012 Ruth Lilly Poetry Fellowship.
