There is no entry fee and no purchase is necessary to enter the competition.
The competition is open to writers regardless of geographical location.
The competition is open to writers above the age of 18.
Entries must be original works of fiction of up to but no longer than 5,000 words in length.
The closing date for entries is May 1st 2017. After this date no further entries to the competition will be accepted.
Only one entry will be accepted per entrant.
Please ensure that personal details do not appear on the manuscript itself as entries will be judged anonymously.
All entries must be in English.
Entrants must submit their manuscript via the dedicated page before the closing date. Entries must be submitted in MS Word format. Printed manuscripts will not be accepted.
Almond Press reserves the right to disqualify any entry if the entry criteria are not met, or if the entry contains illegal or offensive material.
All entrants will receive confirmation of receipt of their entry. Almond Press accepts no responsibility for entries not received successfully for any reason whatsoever.
Submittions can be withdrawn from the competition at any time before the results are announced.
The prize will only be awarded if the quality of the entries received are of what Almond Press deems to be of requisite quality for publication.
Employees of Almond Press, their family members or anyone else connected in any way with the competition or with helping to set up or run the competition shall not be permitted to enter the competition.
One winning story will be chosen.
The author of the winning story will be awarded as follows:
• 100 GBP cash prize
• Publication in the Almond Press annual short story anthology
• Author interview posted on the Almond Press website
• An author profile published on the Almond Press website
No alternative to the prize will be offered. The prize is not transferable.
An additional 15 to 25 stories may be selected for inclusion in the anthology based on quality.
Judges will be appointed by Almond Press and their decision is final and binding.
The judges will remain anonymous.
The winning stories will be published according to Almond Press standard contract which will be offered to the winning writers.
Unsuccessful entries will be securely deleted from all electronic storage devices belonging to the Promoter.
Almond Press is a service provider only and does not take any legal responsibility for the content of the winning entry.
Under the terms of the Almond Press standard contract the author will retain the copyright of the work and will grant Almond Press the write to publish the work in print and electronic formats.
The author accepts all legal responsibility for the work, including responsibility for any libellous, defamatory, blasphemous or other material contained within the work that may be legally challenged.
Almond Press reserves the right to cancel or amend the competition and these terms and conditions without notice in the event of a catastrophe, war, civil or military disturbance, or any actual or anticipated breach of any applicable law or regulation or any other event outside of the Almond Press control.
The winner agrees to make themselves available for publicity.
The winner agrees that their work can be included in all media and social media as deemed appropriate by Almond Press.
Almond Press’ decision in respect of all matters to do with the competition is final and no correspondence will be entered into.
The winner agrees to the use of his/her name and image in any publicity material created by the Almond Press. Any personal data relating to the winner or any other entrants will be used solely in accordance with current UK data protection legislation and will not be disclosed to a third party without the entrant’s prior consent
By entering this competition, entrants will be deemed to have indicated their acceptance of and agreement to be bound by these terms and conditions.
